Alzheimer's Association preparing for widespread PET imaging adoption

Day by day, it becomes more and more clear that PET imaging will soon play an indispensable role in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. What was once considered a research tool — a way to visualize the amyloid and tau pathology of Alzheimer's with a precision no other modality could match — is rapidly becoming a clinical necessity. The reason is straightforward: the new generation of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) that are now entering clinical practice require confirmation of amyloid-beta pathology before treatment can begin. PET is the most reliable and specific tool we have to provide that confirmation.

The Alzheimer's Association understands this, and it is preparing accordingly. I am proud to say that PraanaTech is a member of the Alzheimer's Association's business consortium — a recognition that places us alongside the organizations and companies that are shaping the future of Alzheimer's care. The Association is actively working to ensure that the healthcare system is ready for the widespread use of amyloid PET and tau PET: developing guidance for clinicians, advocating for appropriate reimbursement policies, educating patients and caregivers, and working with imaging technology providers to address the practical barriers to broad adoption. These are not abstract policy conversations — they are the operational details that will determine whether the promise of early diagnosis can actually be delivered at scale.

For PraanaTech, being part of this ecosystem is both an honor and a responsibility. The Association's work on widespread PET adoption aligns perfectly with our own mission: to make high-quality amyloid PET imaging accessible in the communities where patients actually live, not just at the major academic centers where PET scanners are currently concentrated. As the clinical indication for PET expands — driven by the growing use of DMTs and the corresponding need for confirmed biomarker diagnosis — the pressure on the current PET infrastructure will increase dramatically. We are building the technology to help meet that demand, and we are glad to be doing it in partnership with an organization as committed to patients as the Alzheimer's Association.
